The Horizon Europe Innovation Action GREENGAGE was officially launched on February 20-21, 2023, in the vibrant city of Bristol, UK. Coordinated by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH, this exciting project brings together 17 partners from eight European countries. GREENGAGE aims to deploy digital solutions to enhance citizen engagement and improve city effectiveness in meeting the European Green Deal’s ambitious goal of carbon-neutral cities.

A Fruitful Beginning

The two-day kick-off meeting was more than just an introduction – it was a dynamic gathering that allowed us to meet in person and delve into the details of our collaboration. We reviewed project tasks, individual contributions, timelines, and the overall expectations from this groundbreaking initiative.

The discussions were not only thorough but also sparked intriguing conversations about the conceptualization of GREENGAGE Observatories and the specific needs of our pilot cities and regions concerning the provided technologies.

Highlights of the First Day

One of the standout moments of the first day was our visit to the Bristol Observatory, located in the inner east of Bristol. The East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood represents a collaborative effort to design improvements with local communities, aiming to balance vehicle and pedestrian street usage better.

We enjoyed an engaging guided tour around the neighbourhood, organized by Bristol City Council, one of our project partners. During the tour, we had the chance to observe the current situation and experience firsthand the challenges posed by the lack of safe sidewalks and the prevalence of high-speed traffic.

Looking Forward

The GREENGAGE project is set to have a significant impact on promoting green and digital transformations towards carbon-neutral cities. By leveraging digital solutions and enhancing citizen engagement, GREENGAGE is set to make substantial strides in achieving the ambitious goals of the European Green Deal.

As the project progresses, we are excited to witness the innovative contributions and positive changes it will bring to selected cities across Europe.
